Hi, you’ve come to the right place to Discover the

Benefits of Fish Oil.

Where did all this hype about Omega-3 rich fish oil start anyways?

The discovery of fish oil benefits:

The benefits of high potency fish oil were discovered in the 1970′s when Danish Researchers  found that the Inuits in Greenland showed a much lower rate of cardiovascular problems than the rest of the population.  Japanese also showed a similar lower rate of cardiovascular disease.  Researchers found that even though the Intuits had a high consumption of fats, the fats were actually from sea creatures such as seals, salmon and whales.  All have a very high Omega 3 fatty acids.  The Japanese also have a diet that is rich in fish and fish oil.  Studies done all over the world have found that there are many benefits to High Potency Fish Oil, if taken correctly. Many of these can be obtained on line and delivered directly to your door, in drugstores and are even prescribed by doctors.

Some of the reported fish oil benefits:

Fish Oil has been found to have cardiovascular health benefits.  These benefits may be so good that the American Heart Association recommends that people eat fish, preferably oily fish, at least twice a week, or take a supplement if you prefer. Studies have shown that diets rich in omega-3 fats (fish oil) or high potency fish oil, decrease the levels of triglyceride – a type of fat linked to heart disease – and decrease the risk of irregular heart rhythms thus lowering the possibility of sudden cardiac arrests or strokes.  Diets rich in fish oil have also been linked to lowering blood pressure.  You can visit the American Heart Association site at www.americanheart.org for additional information on heart disease and the effects of fish oil. According to Science Daily (Sep. 28 2004) researchers found that fish oils even appear to reduce breast cancer among some women.  The researchers found that among postmenopausal women, those who ate the most  omega-3 fatty acids (from fish such as salmon and mackerel) or high potency fish oil, were 34 percent less likely to be diagnosed with breast cancer than women who ate the least in omega-3 fatty acids from fish. They believe that lipid peroxidation products-that is, substances produced when the fatty acids break down-were behind the protection. Some of the diseases that may be helped with High Potency Fish Oil include: Heart and Cardiovascular Disease, Colon and Prostate cancer along with possibly Breast Cancer, High Blood Pressure and Arthritis. Fish oil can also reduce the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and may lessen the need for patients to take NSAIDS which can have harmful effects.  A great source for other information is www.fishoilbenefitsguide.com. Researchers have also found that a high intake of fish oil may help in the prevention of age related memory loss, consequently lowering the risk of developing Alzheimers. According to the Mayo Clinic, there is evidence from multiple studies supporting the intake of recommended amounts of DHA and EPA, which are the beneficial fatty acids within fish derived Omega-3 oils, reduces the risk of death, heart attack, dangerous abnormal heart rhythms, and strokes in people with known cardiovascular disease, slows the buildup of atherosclerotic plaques (“hardening of the arteries”), and lowers blood pressure slightly. However, high doses may have harmful effects, such as an increased risk of bleeding, especially if you’re on blood thinning medication. So, if in doubt, always check with your doctor. Although similar benefits are forwarded for ALA (alpha-linolenic acid), which are primarily found in plant produced Omega-3s, the scientific evidence is less compelling, and benefits may be less pronounced. Everyone needs the OMEGA-3 fatty acids, normal adults need them to maintain health and prevent disease, older people need it even more to help their immune system fight off disease, and the important part that the oils play in helping to prevent the age related problems and diseases that develop as you get older, it might even improve longevity, but if it doesn’t, it will definitely improve the quality of life.

Even Pharmaceutical companies are getting into the act with their own Omega-3s:

GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceutical Company markets the LOVAZA product, which has proven to improve the level of high triglycerides which is the bad cholesterol in humans.  They have an excellent website that discusses the benefits of “LOVAZA” which is an omega-3 acid ethyl esters drug, similar to fish oil.  Their website has lot’s of information along with discussing with your physician.  This is a prescription drug that should be discussed with your doctor and can only be prescribed by your doctor.
